Sylvania NB501SL9 Blu-ray Review
Reviewed on Jan 13, 2009Up for Review: The Sylvania NB501SL9 Blu-Ray Disc Player
Sylvania unveiled the Sylvania NB501SL9 Blu-ray Player in the market to fuel competition by Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and the likes. The Sylvania NB501SL9 is equipped with HDMI Deep Color which reduces the posterization effect of the playback image. Progressive color in all modes is produced by this player. An optional Surround Audio system can provide great home theater sound.
This player supports the 1080p video resolution offered by Blu-ray discs. These discs offer 54 Mbps bandwidth which is more than any other format. The Sylvania NB501SL9 indulges in multiple full frames resulting in beautiful and crystal clear images. It even up-converts existing DVD’s for enhanced picture quality. Standard definition DVD is converted to high definition up to 1080p over a HDMI connection. This also enables your current library of CD’s and DVD’s to run on the Sylvania NB501SL9 as the player is backward compatible. You can also view JPEG images with this Blu-ray disc player.
The Sylvania NB501SL9 supports multi-channel surround sound. Dolby TrueHD uses lossless technology to bring rich multi-channel surround sound. This player also offers 5.1 channel surround sound format with DTS Digital. A true home theater experience enthralls you with both the sound technologies and a high definition video. The Sylvania NB501SL9 also displays picture-in-picture features. This enables you to watch a secondary video in a small window juxtaposed on the primary video. You can also playback pictures stored in a SD memory card. Picture-in-picture commentary and sub-titles can also be stored in an SD memory card.
The Sylvania NB501SL9 is easy to use and gives a consistent performance. The audio and video quality is outstanding. The areas where the player fails are the load time and the eject time. The time taken is so much that one loses interest in playing movies loaded with special effects. But on the whole, the player is a good bet for the money.
