Sony BDP-S35 Blu-Ray Review
Reviewed on Nov 20, 2008Up for review: The Sony BDP-S35 Blu-ray Disc Player. If you have recently purchased a new HDTV, the next step is to upgrade to a Blu-ray player. After stomping out HDDVD, there shouldn’t be any apprehension about which format to upgrade to.

The Sony BDP-S35 is Sony’s entry-level Blu-ray disc player but is packed with features. The first thing that stands out is its very slim size compared to most Blu-ray players. The BDP-S35 is cheaper than most standalone players and is missing a few features that the more expensive players have like Profile 2.0. For most viewers, this isn’t a huge deal and may be available in the future with a firmware upgrade.
With its discount price, the very reputable c|net has proclaimed the Sony BDP-S35 as the best standalone Blu-ray player in its price range. It’s compact size gives the appearance of a regular DVD player compared to other standalone Blu-ray players that are typically much bigger than a regular DVD player.
The BDP-S35 is BD-Live ready which means you can’t currently access the extra features on BD-Live but after a firmware upgrade, this player will be capable of doing so. The extra features on BD-Live can be fun but definitely not required.
You can still watch your old DVD’s on the Sony BDP-S35 and they display very well. Overall, the HD video, DVD video and audio of the BDP-S35 Blu-ray player is fantastic compared to its competition.
